From May 2012, award-winning presenter Philippa Tomson has been part of the Sky News team presenting the news as it happens on their 24hour channel. It's Philippa's ability to communicate with her audience that has seen her rise from television production journalist to main news presenter within the space of just 4 years.
Originally from York, Philippa trained as a print journalist at the Midlands based Express & Star newspaper. She cut her teeth on the weekly editions before moving onto the newspaper's headline Wolverhampton edition. After graduating to the position of chief reporter aged 23, she decided to make the difficult leap into television.
In 2002, Philippa joined ITV Central in Birmingham where she worked as a producer, reporter and presenter, regularly co-hosting the 6pm show with long-standing news anchor Bob Warman. In 2006, she went on to co-present ITV1's North East Tonight and Border's Lookaround that made her the region's household name.
Philippa has also worked as a freelance presenter on the 24-hour ITV News Channel and has presented on ITV's London Tonight, Central News East, ITV West Country as well as the weekly current affairs programme Central Extra. You may have also seen her presenting the weather forecasts on Daybreak and GMTV. In August 2006 she accepted an offer to co-present North East Tonight with ITV Tyne Tees.
Aside from live news, Philippa relishes the challenge of presenting in front of a large audience and fits demand in the corporate sector around her television presenting role. With her background as a news anchor, where the unexpected often happens, Phillippa is able to confidently host any event and stamp her warm personality on any occasion.
