Kate Silverton is a highly accomplished versatile journalist formerly with the BBC. She was regularly seen on BBC Breakfast and also on the News bulletins at One and Ten O’Clock . Kate also contributed to BBC World News.
From being tear-gassed in Bethlehem and broadcasting from the frontline in Basra to figure-heading the BBC’s coverage of the Oscars and the Glastonbury festival, Kate Silverton was as much at home in the war zones of the Middle East and Africa as she was rubbing shoulders with celebrities in the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles.
Early days:
Kate grew up in the Epping Forest district of Essex. She went to Durham University to study Psychology which she now puts to good use. Her first job was in London at a bank but becoming a journalist was soon to be the next step. Kate Silverton trained with the BBC and ended up working on BBC’s regional news programme Look North. She then moved on and became a reporter with ITV’s Tyne Tees Television. A number of other programmes followed including Ch5’s The Wright Stuff, The Heaven and Earth Show and Weekend Breakfast on BBC Radio 5 Live. These were all before Kate Silverton joined the main presenting team on BBC News.
In 2018 Kate took part in BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. She did extremely well, staying in the competition for nine weeks. Having size 9 feet, Kate had to have her dancing shoes specially made for the programme.
2021 saw Kate Silverton leaving the BBC just after releasing her best selling parenting guide book, There’s No Such Things As Naughty. Having two children, a son and also a daughter and having spent several years exploring the science of children’s brain development Kate left the BBC in 2021 and is now set to become a children’s counsellor.
