Jon Snow is a journalist and cousin of the legendary BBC presenter Peter Snow. Jon Snow was the main presenter of the multi award winning news programme Channel 4 News, which has been on the go since its launch in 1982. Jon joined the programme in 1989 and retired in December 2021 making him the longest running presenter of CH4’s News (32 years).
He joined ITN in 1976, having served his apprenticeship in local radio.
Jon has vast experience as a foreign correspondent and diplomatic editor and has reported on major news stories all over the world.
He has won numerous awards for reporting over the years including, in 1979, the Royal Television Society’s News Feature award the Monte Carlo Television Festival Golden Nymph award and in 1980, the RTS TV journalist of the year award. He has also received the Valiant for Truth Media award in 1981 and two awards from the RTS for his reporting in El Salvador. In 1995 at the RTS Programme and Technology awards, Jon Snow the journalist received the award for Best Male Presenter. The only award he has yet to achieve is the TV Socks and Ties awards which he should be due by now.
Jon has also made a number of film documentaries and hosted numerous television debates and discussions.
Apart from being one of the top TV journalists and presenters of his era, Jon is known for having strong independent views on topical issues and his choice of flamboyant socks and ties. He is a popular choice for hosting and will consider after dinner speaking.
