Lauren Laverne

Lauren Laverne

Lauren Laverne started her career in music. Whilst still at college, she along with her brother, formed the four piece indie band, Kenickie. What followed was a single in the UK charts, a spot on Top of The Pops, two albums and a live appearance at Glastonbury. Little was Lauren to know that a few years later, she would be back at Glastonbury, as one of the BBC's main presenters for the festival.

Just before Kenickie split in 1998, Lauren moved into broadcasting when she presented 'The Alphabet Show' on UK Play TV. This was a music programme which she co-presented with Chris Addison

Later she started in radio as a London XFM DJ. An instant hit with the listeners, it wasn't long before she moved to the BBC, where she now hosts her own show daily on BBC Radio 6 Music, between 10am and 1pm.

TV was never far away for Lauren and with her strong musical influences, she was soon covering music events up and down the country. Other shows were also to follow, Transmission, The Culture Show, Style on Trial and of course Glastonbury, which she used as the subject location for her book 'Candy Pop: Candy and the Broken Biscuits' published in 2010.

That same year, Lauren did her first stint, at a film premier in Leicster Square, when she interviewed the cast and stars that had turned out to see the European premier of 'Scott Pilgrim vs The World'.

Currently, Lauren is co-presenting alongside Jimmy Carr, Charlie Broker and David Mitchell, Channel 4's weekly, live comedy and current affairs show '10 O'Clock Live'. The show, now in it's second series was commissioned following the success of Channel 4's Alternative Election Night, which was also presented by Lauren and the team back in 2010.
